Wednesday 7th March,2017 was the first day of our first trip to Norway. The day started with an early morning alarm call for the drive to Gatwick Airport followed by a two hour flight to Oslo with Norwegian.com
First impressions of Oslo is F..F…Freezing.
Although the sun was shining the temperature was reported as -3. The image below shows the landscape covered in snow seen from the train window
The first thing to be aware of when arriving at Oslo Airport is that there are two different trains you can catch as follows:
Train 1 is the Flytoget service, costs 190NRK, non stop and takes 19 minutes
Train 2 is the NSB local service, costs 93NRK, 1 stop, 23 minutes
We took the second option. We are actually staying right outside tbe central station This is the view of tbe square out side tbe station and is about 30m from our hotel entrance.
Late this afternoon we have taken a walk around part of the centre to visit the Oslo Opera House, on our walk we came across these metal chairs which is actually a piece of art by Antony Gormley called “Place of Rememberance” which was to commemorate the Jews who were removed from Norway during WW2
We then proceeded to the Opera House which is an interesting building where you can quite freely walk onto the roof of the building.
While visiting the Opera House the weather closed in with snow starting to fall. The following two images show the building opposite before and after with snow settling on the frozen sea.
There is also a lot of building work currently going on in this area as shown by no fewer than 10 cranes being present
So final image shows the square at night with snow settling
